SPOT THE TOBY! No it's not the one with the glasses, that's me. By my side are just a few of the Tobys I have for sale. If you look carefully you will see some very rare jugs indeed [and a cat]. I will be happy to discuss with you anything you wish to know about those shown here and indeed all the others in my stock. I have the largest stock of Tobys for sale in the UK at affordable prices. I am totally convinced that the English Toby Jug is the most underestimated antique available today. Prices have shown a steady upward movement for the last 30 years, and current auction prices are realizing new heights. So whether you are buying for investment or pleasure now might just be the right time develop your collection. The cat is not for sale!!!
Two new additions to stock. A very fine Prattware type jug on the left dated around 1820, he is very lightly potted and in excellent condition. Note the typical eyes and spotted coat. He is holding a large redware jug and has an original pipe by his right leg. His ticket price is £650.00. On the right is a superb jug dated about 1825. He wears a striking blue coat and is in very good condition. His ticket price is £650.00. Both jugs will almost definitely increase in value and should be considered as an investment. Good jugs such as these are becoming very difficult to find.
Illustrated here is a fine example of a Ralph Wood Type, about 1785. He has had some very minor restoration expertly executed. His fine green coat and raised glass make him a rare jug indeed. His ticket price must be £2200. His base is unglazed his 'blind eye' can be readily seen. It is very rare for a Ralph Wood type jug such as this appear on the market, only 2 or 3 were readily seen last year (2003). These running glazes, like the two illustrated below, are undoubtedly the Rolls Royce of Tobys, only being surpassed by the earlier 'Thin Man' or 'Lord Howe', both of which are usually out of reach of many pockets. This jug is not presently for sale.
Seen here are two fine Ralph Wood types. Both dated around 1785-90. They are displaying fine running glazes, and the fellow on the right sports an unusually coloured lavender coat. He also sports a face not that dissimilar to the roman nose variety. They both hold empty jugs and show very fine moulding details. Expect to pay a four figure sum for either of these fine jugs which will ultimately become good investment buys. For quality jugs such as these just e mail me for more details. These two jugs are not for sale at present but watch this site for future additions and developments.
Have you ever seen a Toby like this one before? He is magnificent. He has a step base, a jug overflowing with ale, and showing most unusual large bubbles. He must date from about 1800. He is lightly potted, in excellent condition and with a base decoration similar to any Neale jug. His coat is covered in small red rossette type patterns, and his green trousers contrast beautifully with the whiteness of his glaze. His face is well shaded with outlined lips and teeth. He is a real aristocrat. His fingernails are individually marked. Understandably he is not cheap, he may well be the only one in existence. I have put a ticket price on him of £1550 including post and packing in the UK. He could easily be the centrepiece of any collection and I am certain his value will rise on a regular basis.
Illustrated here is a fine Yorkshire. He is showing all the features one would expect. A fringe beneath his hat, a six sided glass and a fine sparrowneck empty jug. His face has excellent features and shows excellent blueing to the glaze and beneath. His colouring is near perfect and the markings on his hat, both inside and outside are an added feature. This gentleman has a small original firing burn just on his right elbow (not visible in the picture), he would undoubtedly have been touching the next jug in the kiln when he was originally fired around 1820-30. It does not detract from the jug but makes a fine talking point. His ticket price is £1200. Good Yorkshires are becoming increasingly difficult to find and I feel they should be regarded as an investment as well as having the pleasure of having them in your collection.
Ralph Wood type long face. Not many of these around. Excellent colouring, unglazed base, raised glass and jug frothing over. An excellent example of a c18 running glazed Jug. If you wish to e mail me any pictures or information, I will do my best to assist you in any queries that you may have. There is no charge for any information or advice. DON'T FORGET I HAVE OVER 250 TOBYS FOR SALE.
